Sherri and I have recently been watching the "flip-this" shows about house-flipping. A group of the more successful "flippers" have managed to land their own show on The Learning Channel called "The Real Deal". Aside from it the concept of flipping being so damn cool, and the amazing work they are doing with those houses, Sherri and I have noticed that the soundtrack to the show features none other than DFW's own The Deathray Davies and Valve! I absolutely LOVE both of those bands, and am happy to hear they are having success even after calling it quits (going on a hiatus in DRDs case).
Edit: Add our friends DARYL to the list. Some producer or directory has got to be from around the DFW area.
The Skirt and I ended up spending my oncall day watching movies. First up was 2005's most-likely-straight-to-video offering from Lion's Gate Films Waiting. There wasn't really anything special about the film other than a few chuckles. Mostly "Dick and Fart" jokes, I definitely got a higher dose of entertainment than She did.
For those of you that have seen it, you may remember the scene where Justin Long's character "Dean" receives an astronomically large tip from a former classmate who now happens to be an Electrical Engineer. More precisely, a 0 bill was left for a check. This forcing Dean to make up his own "penis-showing game". Now, you may ask yourself, "self, what the heck is a 'penis showing game', and where the f**k is Mike going with this?". Well, let me enlighten you about a situation that happened to me today, and you can try to figure out what the two have in common.
We got up today, had a delightful lunch (ironically at "Shennanigan's") and attended a matinee at the local multiplex. Might I add, Underworld Evolution kicks ass. Sherri says so, and I believe her.
As promised...news! And this time, instead of just providing links to the news sites...I've included links to band pages and label sites! How cool am I? Well, I may not be cool, but I'm really nice for taking the time to find all these sites...it's not as easy as you might think. Hyphen this...blahblahblah.net that...page does not exist...ARGH! Oh well, it's the least I can do since I'm not going to be doing reviews here anymore...at least not 'original' reviews.
Reel Big Fish have decided to replace Travis Werts after all...the former trumpet player for Spring Heeled Jack (former because they broke up), Tyler Jones, will be playing the remaining dates on the RBF tour.
What do a sold out show, a drunken alien, and good friends have in common? A damn good time! I admit, I initially didn't want to go to this show, purely because it was going to cost $45 a ticket. Luckily I have a great friend who happened to have 2 extra tickets, that Sherri and I happily procured.
I won't go into too much detail about each band, but I will summarize the events of the night, and hilight the wonderful memories that will stick in my head for years to come.
What: Edge Fall Bowling Ball
When: Sept. 19th, 2001
Where: Bronco Bowl Entertainment
The afternoon began around 4:15 PM with local punkers Bowling for Soup playing their "First ever show on a bowling lane". I have been a big fan of these guys since I heard them play a festival back in my home town with the likes of The Hunger/Kicking Harold/ and Podunk. Oddly enough, BFS's song "Thespian" was written about an incident with a friend of mine's girlfriend at that show. Anyhow, the played a 45 minute set and passed the stage onto another local talent "Jibe" (If you haven't heard them, you should).
Well, it has begun. Alienated.org and tonality.com have gotten things rolling with our first official promotion. We had an interview with the guys from Valve last night that proved to be a milestone. We are proud to announce official support for Casey, Josh, Lance, and Tony (both old and new) of Valve. We would like to welcome Valve to alienated.org as official members of our service. We will be announcing shows providing news and tour updates for the guys as they embark on a wonderful journey of music. Please read on for more information.
We will soon be adding a calendar service for our supported bands to send us tourdates and show times, etc. Valve will be sending us updates on what they are up to, and future plans of the band. Hopefully soon, we will be adding alot more bands to the roster so watch for more updates like this one.
Welcome my friends to the land of melotronic sounds. Suggestion 1: If you have not listened to Valve’s new release A Perfect Day for Stars find whatever means possible to get to your local music shop and snatch a copy. If you like to touch before you taste, head over to valverocks.com and download the new clips on the audio page. Read on for a nice little review.
