Almost 6 Months and Carrots!

So, Liam's almost 6 months old now. We've been feeding him cereal for a little over a month now, but we finally decided veggies were in store. We decided to start with carrots. Thinking we'd sneak them in after a half bowl of barley, he caught on quickly and showed just how much he didn't enjoy the taste change. Luckily he's scarfing them down now!

Hooray for DFW area musicians!

Sherri and I have recently been watching the "flip-this" shows about house-flipping. A group of the more successful "flippers" have managed to land their own show on The Learning Channel called "The Real Deal". Aside from it the concept of flipping being so damn cool, and the amazing work they are doing with those houses, Sherri and I have noticed that the soundtrack to the show features none other than DFW's own The Deathray Davies and Valve! I absolutely LOVE both of those bands, and am happy to hear they are having success even after calling it quits (going on a hiatus in DRDs case).

Edit: Add our friends DARYL to the list. Some producer or directory has got to be from around the DFW area.

Farewell Old Friend (Death was Inevitable)

Sometime in the late 90's I, as did many others, got tired of updating my content on my website manually. I had done some perl development with my first tech job and was a huge fan of /.slashdot. As a result, I decided to contribute a little code to their backend in return for having my own copy of the code to serve up my websites (early a.o, and wtlug.org). This lasted for all of two weeks until I decided that slashcode was a huge hack and not worth the hassle. Luckily for everyone, it has come around and is now a very viable CMS for running high-volume websites.

I stumbled across a package called MyNews on Freshmeat. It was written in a language I didn't know yet, and had barely heard of: PHP. It was written by a fellow from Norway named Stig. Stig got what he needed out of it, and pretty much left it at that. I downloaded, installed, and began hacking away daily to beef it up for my needs. Eventually, I contacted Stig and asked him if I could release a new version of it with all of my changes. He agreed, and I became the maintainer of MyNews-1.0. Over the years, as I saw new functionality show up on the web, I did what I could to incorporate those new technologies into MyNews.

After many point releases and complete re-writes, my budding family and deeper focus on my career began to take focus. My plan was to keep slowly contributing to the project, as time permitted, and release MyNews-5 for public consumption when it was ready. I announced, and made available, a few *pre-release* builds and was happy with the stability and functionality of the new code. A few sites [1][2] were running it and seemed to be happily plugging along. Unfortunately, a job change and impending addition to the family prevented me from fixing the few bugs that were left and releasing the Gold (read: final) version of MyNews-5.

Unfortunately, with the slow development cycle, I have not been able to keep up with many of the new features/technologies available in many of the major CMS available these days. Sadly, if released, MyNews-5 would still be light-years behind many of the other offerings [1][2]. Therefore, I have decided to discontinue development of MyNews. I have removed the main website and directed all content to this article.

If you are interested in taking over the project, please contact me and I will do every thing I can to transition it. I would love to see MyNews become what I always wanted to see. Unfortunately, I just don't have time to do it myself.

I have officially migrated my site over to Drupal-5. I have written a migration script for personal use to convert data in the MyNews database to Drupal's DB schema. If you are interested, I will provide you with a copy of this script.

Return of the Mack(s)

Mike is super awesome number one guy man! I, for one, would very much like to both thank and congratulate him for this momentous achievement of the human spirit. Also, welcome back A:O, you were missed - though Mike's blog wasn't nearly as bad as he seems to think it was.

About damn time! (welcome back)

Well, I've decided that the "personal" blog site shit just didn't quite work out for me. I've decided to bring back the good 'ole A.O with all of the old content. Be looking for new content coming soon as we try to get back up and running again.

Alternative Twinkies?

[caption align="left"][/caption]And here, I thought twinkies were already gay. Apparently Mrs. Bairds felt the need to add a little twist. This has got to be the funniest damn thing I've seen in years, and I couldn't have done it without the help of my model friend Andy.

Music News: 06/30-07/07

Well, it's been way too damn long since we last did the weekly music news. I'm attempting to turn over a new leaf and return the weekly column to you, out loyal fans. Look for new things to start popping up on the site soon, and if you are in a band, and want us to post concert events, please let us know and we'll do what we can. Also, you can shoot me and email (I don't have the portal submission scripts built yet) and I'll get you added to the portal. This is all in preparation for the launch of NationalNoise.net which is going to hopefully be a one stop shop for independent music in you area. We will be looking for contributions once the site is up.
Enough shameless plugging for now, onto the news...

More F'n Concert Dates

I just spent an hour or two browsing the internet and posting a bunch of tour dates, including a tentative list for who we're getting on Warped this year (and you'd better get ready soon, we're getting it in June, not August like usual).
